Christmas (and Hannukah) are the biggest celebrations that we look forward to in the year, and they're almost here. Besides all the family time, the carols, the traditions and everything that is the occasion, one of the things we really look forward to are the gifts (we admit it). And what makes a better gift than jewelry, right? We're not leading you on...research shows that jewelry is a very popular choice, this time of year!

Bearing the occasion in mind, we decided to think about Christmas jewelry traditions...and these extend beyond what you'd normally expect for the festival. Why? It's simple...the beauty of this time of year is that it creates the perfect setting for making that grand gesture, or that huge announcement you've been sitting on for the last few days, or just setting the stage for starting something new and exciting.

Traditional jewelry for Christmas is pretty straightforward, so we decided to look at a few of the biggest occasions that tend to happen around this time of year...the ones for which you might give or get a nice, sparkly memento.

Christmas Engagements

Popping the question on or around Christmas is something that's becoming increasingly popular...you might even say it's on its way to becoming one of today's traditions. The reason it's a winning time to do this is that everyone's already in a great mood, if not a downright romantic one, and there's a beautiful postcard-like setting almost everywhere you turn. All you need to do is find the ring, and pick your spot and moment!

Quite a few of you are undoubtedly planning something like this, so here are some ideas for how to do it in case you've not quite figured out your strategy. And you can't pop the question without a ring...here are some we can suggest for you:

If you're working up to an engagement with your special someone but you're not quite there yet, there's a very sweet idea that was more common back in the day (although it may yet show a revival)...the promise ring. You might say it's a pre-engagement commitment. And what's a more perfect time for this gesture than Christmas!

Merry Christmas...we're pregnant!

This one naturally, is from the ladies to their men. If your cards have lined up right, the days/weeks leading up to Christmas are when you've just found out the two of you are on the way to a teeny, tiny addition to the family, and you've not shared this news with your husband just yet. Make it a special occasion...buy him a set of cufflinks to commemorate the day you told him he's gonna be a daddy. Better still, if you can get them with your baby's birthstone. Now there's a memory he'll always cherish!

Yuletide Weddings

There's something incredibly magical about a Christmas wedding and all that white everywhere...the grounds, the trees, the decorations...not to mention the bride (talk about a white wedding!). And more people are cashing in on that magic every year. You might think that a wedding and Christmas being so close together could detract from each other, but that's not necessarily true. It's the combination of two very special and joyful occasions – an evergreen memory in the making. An unexpected advantage of a Christmas wedding is that it'll be very hard to forget an anniversary...and if you do, well, jewelry is a favored gift in December, like we said.

Of course, weddings (Christmas or not) give just about everyone the chance to gift jewelry. Take the mother of the bride...or a friend or sister. Depending on how and what they buy, they can give the bride any combination of "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue." Then there's the traditional gift of pearls from the father-of-the-bride, the wedding rings, jewelry for the bridesmaids and whatnot. You gotta love Christmas wedding jewelry traditions.

Find your piece of Christmas jewelry

These aren't the only occasions for giving that Christmas jewelry, naturally – it could be birthdays, promotions and raises, we've spent 50 glorious years together, and anything else that's special to you. These are chances for you to give them that necklace, bracelet, ring, watch, cufflinks or anything else they've been quietly wishing for. And it's Christmas!

Of course, one can't ignore the more traditional, seasonal jewelry...your Christmas tree and holly necklaces and bracelets, and Star of David and cross pendants. And let's not forget brooches...at this time, the brighter and more colorful they are, the better. Of course, since none of these ever go out of style, you've got yourself some eternal pieces there. Perhaps a "something old", one day?

Either way, we have something for everyone and for every occasion you could possibly celebrate this time of year. Come by our store and browse through our collections. Or check them out online first, if you prefer and contact us if something catches your fancy. Happy celebrating!
