Omega Watch Price: 3 Factors to Consider

Written By: Vahid Moradi

The history of Omega watches goes back more than 170 years ago. So where are Omega watches made? In 1848, Louis Brandt opened a humble watch établissage in Switzerland. By the dawn of the 20th century, the company had become one of the largest watchmakers on the planet, producing more than 100,000 timepieces a year.1

Today, the Omega brand is synonymous with the highest quality wristwatches in the world, lauded for their fine materials, beautiful design, and award-winning accuracy.

In fact, the renowned chronometric accuracy of authentic Omega watches is so precise that the watch brand is the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games. It’s also the brand that Buzz Aldrin wore when he became the first man to walk on the moon—making Omega the first watch to keep time in outer space.

The depth of this watch brand’s history is mirrored in the wide range of price points for watches across its various collections. Here’s what to know about pricing for both Men’s Omega watches and Omega Women’s Watches.

How Much Are Omega Watches?

At the lowest end of the spectrum, an Omega timepiece goes for about $2,000. But on the high end, these luxurious timepieces can be valued at around $60,000.

But Omega watches have commanded much higher prices than that. In 2021, a luxury watch from 1957 sold at auction for $3.4 million dollars, soliciting bids from places all over the world, including:2

  • Hong Kong
  • Texas
  • Arabian Peninsula

That said, the sweet spot for the Omega brand is between $5,200 to $7,150. When it comes to watches in this price range, Omega is the industry leader.

So, what details factor into an Omega watch price? How are these widely treasured timepieces evaluated? The following three factors are the primary ones to consider.

Timeless design and superior craftsmanship. Shop watches!

#1 Watch Movement

The most important part of any watch is the movement or caliber. Essentially, the movement is the watch’s engine, powering every other part of the timepiece. The movement is responsible for moving the watch hands, keeping accurate time, and controlling extra features like calendars or dual time zones.

There are four components that comprise the watch movement. They are:3

  • Power source – In mechanical watches, this is usually a mainspring. Mainsprings are coil-shaped and twist together and tighten when the watch is set. This allows it to store and expend the kinetic energy that powers the watch.
  • Wheel train – Also known as the gear train, this component receives energy from the mainspring and, by way of a series of tiny gears, sends it to the escapement.
  • Escapement – Once the kinetic energy reaches the escapement, it’s then distributed to the balance wheel or oscillator.
  • Oscillator – This component could be considered the heart of the watch. It beats between five and ten times per second in a circular motion.
  • To put it simply, the watch movement is absolutely crucial to an Omega timepiece that functions correctly and displays accurate information. Understandably, the quality of the movement can affect the price of an Omega watch considerably. Because of this, recurrent Omega watch repair and maintance checks are very beneficial.

    #2 Precious Metals

After the watch movement, the materials used to manufacture the luxury watch have a tremendous impact on the price. Many people question, “do Omega watches hold their value?” Omega is known the world over for the quality and durability of its materials, which leads to long-lasting watches that are passed down from generation to generation.

Fundamentally, authentic Omega watches are made from gold. However, the brand is loyal to a few different kinds of gold, each of which has a different value that affects the Omega watch price. Across collections, the precious metals that Omega uses are:

    • Yellow Gold
    • Solid Gold
    • Platinum Gold

Notably, the company also uses its own proprietary Sedna gold. Rose gold in color, Sedna is 18 karats or 75% gold blended with copper and palladium, a white gold.4

    #3 Collections

Finally, the Omega watch collection that a given timepiece comes from is a substantial factor in pricing. Omega manufactures watches in several luxurious and historic collections. Those collections are:

    • Omega Constellation
    • Omega De Ville
    • Omega Seamaster
    • Omega Speedmaster

Depending on the Omega watch collection, the price of the watch can go up or down. For example, the Omega Speedmaster is modeled after the watch Buzz Aldrin wore on the moon and, when purchased new, goes for around $5,000. Meanwhile, newer Omega Seamaster diving models begin at about $6,000.
