CJ Charles Jewelers and Panerai La Jolla Boutique were proud to be a part of the 10th Annual La Jolla Concours D'Elegance this past weekend.

    Friday Cocktail Party

The weekend started with a bang at the Contemporary Classic Cocktail party, hosted at La Valencia and co-sponsored by Officine Panerai. Dancers swirled as guests nibbled on delicacies and sipped specialty cocktails. Vahid Moradi, President Panerai La Jolla stated:
The Panerai La Jolla Boutique was proud to be the Presenting Sponsor of the Friday evening welcome event for the La Concours, benefiting The Monarch School and La Jolla Historical Society. The event was just magical and energetic, and it was the perfect way to showcase Panerai's new casually-elegant Radiomir 1940 Collection with other sport watches amidst the backdrop of the contemporary classic and creative themes of the evening.

    La Jolla Concours D'Elegance 2014

The rest of the weekend was spent hosting guests in the Panerai VIP Hospitality Lounge. The lounge design is inspired by luxury yachts and is a hallmark of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge regattas in New England among 11 classic yacht regattas sponsored around the world. It made it's west-coast debut here in La Jolla at the Concours! A Panerai team-member shared:
The concept was to connect the world of classic sailing with the world of classic cars and introduce these passionate group of collectors to the world of Officine Panerai. Overall, we feel the wooden boat-like VIP Hospitality Lounge succeeded in expressing this shared passion beautifully. It was such a pleasure for us personally to meet such passionate collectors!
Watch and car collectors enjoyed the hospitality lounge, Michael Roeder blogging for ThePuristSPro took a number of stunning photographs and provided a great write up of the time he spent at the Concours. When asked about the most memorable sight from the weekend, Vahid Moradi noted:
Why, the Panerai Hospitality Lounge of course! But if I had to pick a non-Panerai sight I will keep in my mind's eye for a long time it would be the scene of all of this exquisite machines with so much classic history, all lined up around the Concours like beautiful, beloved works of art, perfectly-restored and showcased for our enjoyment.
CJ Charles Jewelers and Officine Panerai La Jolla look forward to participating in the La Jolla Concours D'Elegance for many years to come. If you were a guest of the Panerai La Jolla Concours Hospitality Lounge, please share your comments below! We would love to hear your impressions of the event. • Marcus Luttrell and CJ Charles

    0 comments / Posted

The incredible Marcus Luttrell was on hand during a recent dinner hosted by CJ Charles Jewelers and Panerai. His story of bravery and valor can be seen in the 2014 movie Lone Survivor and read below. The intimate gathering saw Donnie Edwards, Tej Gill, and Rafael Alvarez enjoying an excellent dinner and deep conversation. Marcus Luttrell is currently involved in two charities: The Lone Survivor Foundation, and The Boot Campaign. We urge you to join us in supporting his worthy causes. During the event CJ Charles Jewelers, The La Jolla Panerai Boutique and Officine Panerai dedicated a Panerai PAM 364 to Marcus Luttrell for his brave service.
On June 28, 2005, Luttrell and SEAL Team 10 were assigned to a mission to kill or capture Ahmad Shah (nom de guerre Mohammad Ismail), a high-ranking Taliban leader responsible for killings in eastern Afghanistan and the Hindu-Kush mountains. The SEAL team was made up of Luttrell, Michael P. Murphy, Danny Dietz and Matthew Axelson. Luttrell and Axelson were the team’s snipers; Dietz was in charge of communications and Murphy the team leader. A group of goat herders stumbled upon the SEALs, the four SEALs immediately took control of the situation and discussed what to do with the herders. After taking a vote and basing their decision on ROE, Michael Murphy made the final decision to let them go. The herders were subsequently released and disappeared over the mountain ridge. Luttrell believed they immediately betrayed the team’s location to local Taliban forces and within an hour, the SEALs were engaged in an intense gun battle. In the ensuing battle, the rest of the SEAL team members were killed. Team leader Michael P. Murphy was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in the battle. Danny Dietz, Matthew Axelson, and Marcus were awarded the Navy Cross. An MH-47 Chinook helicopter was dispatched with a force consisting of SEALs and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment “Nightstalkers” to rescue the team, but the helicopter was shot down by an RPG. All 16 men on the Chinook were killed. Luttrell was the only survivor. Badly wounded, he managed to walk and crawl seven miles to evade capture. He was given shelter by an Afghan tribe, who alerted the Americans of his presence, and American forces finally rescued him six days after the gun battle. Following his physical recovery from Operation Redwing, Marcus went back and completed one more tour before being medically retired. He then wrote the book, Lone Survivor, to share the amazing story of his brothers who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

  • SIHH 2014 Panerai

Panerai is doing some amazing things this year. They have dramatically increased the percentage of watches produced with Panerai in-house movements and are continuing their innovative approach with the addition of the highly limited Galileo Galilei's Pendulum Clock (PAM 500, 30 pieces) which is a wonderful representation of the importance of time keeping in the sciences. This reproduction of the first clock with a free escapement allowing for a clock that would add or lose mere seconds (compared to minutes) every day was a true breakthrough in horology. Watch collectors will also note the the Radiomir 3-Day pocket watches (PAM 447, PAM 529). We love the new Destro Panerai Luminor 1950 (PAM 557, PAM 559) and are very excited about the new Panerai Radiomir 1940 (PAM 518, PAM 519, PAM 520). The new versions of the Luminor feature the technically impressive Panerai 8-Day Power Reserve movement (PAM 560, PAM 561, PAM 562, PAM 563, PAM 564). These watches will be shipping later this year but please let us know which models you are interested in today. These SIHH 2014 Panerai models are very limited! As you know, we are in the midst of the most exciting watch event of the year. SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horologerie) 2014 is currently happening in Geneva. We are visiting all of our favorite brands to see the new 2014 watch models and are sharing all the news with you. You can see all of the 2014 SIHH watches on our Pinterest board, and follow the blog for more in depth discussion. See our previous post on A. Lange & Söhne. We will be updating the blog with more brands in the days to come, but please post any questions for our team in the comments. Panerai continues to impress the horological cognoscenti with their quest for perfection. This year the SIHH 2014 Panerai models have already received a ton of press. Perpetuelle, and A Blog to Watch had the first of many write ups on some of the new models.   [gallery ids="350,349,348,347,346,345,344,343,342,341,340,339,338"]
