Considered the world's largest watch discussion forum and the leading resource of watch news, features and information, TimeZone.com is a hot spot for watch-lovers everywhere. And for the last 10 years, TimeZone has annually been giving its community the chance to vote for what they consider the Watch of the Year. This year, that honor has gone to Vacheron Constantin's Patrimony Contemporaine Ultra-Thin Watch Calibre 1731 (30110/000R-9793).

How did Vacheron get to be Watch of the Year?

So how does this whole process work? First, on the basis of a voting process, the TimeZone moderators finalize a list of the 6 best timepieces of the year. Once this list is created, the selections are made public to the TimeZone community, the world's largest community of watch enthusiasts, who have three weeks to cast their vote for their favored company. Each community member gets only a single vote, and at the end of three weeks, the finalist with the maximum votes wins the title of "Watch of the Year".

This year, the six finalists were the De Bethune DB28 Maxichrono, A. Lange & Söhne Richard Lange Perpetual Calendar Terraluna, Arnold & Son CTB, Piaget Altiplano 900P, Breguet Classique Tourbillon Quantième Perpétuel, and Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Contemporaine Ultra-Thin 1731.

At the end of the voting period, Vacheron Constantin emerged the winner with 38% of the community votes, followed rather closely by A. Lange & Söhne, which netted 36% of the votes. This is the first year that Vacheron Constantin has bagged this title....kudos to them!

Let's meet our winner!

When it's called "Watch of the Year", you know there has to be something very special about it...especially when it looks as unassuming as this watch does! And here's what makes it special: as a minute repeater, this watch contains the coveted striking mechanism, but that's not all – Vacheron went the extra mile. As an ultra-thin watch (a case 8.09mm thick and a movement 3.9mm thick), this watch has the distinction of being the thinnest  minute repeater calibre (calibre 1731) and the thinnest minute repeater watch on the market! This is absolutely the height of the watchmaking art.

This stunning achievement is housed in a beautiful 18k 5N pink gold case with a transparent sapphire case back, rounded out by a black alligator strap and an ardillon buckle.
