It's been a while since you last sat back and thought about all those watches on your "must have" list. When was the last time you bought yourself one of those treasures you think fondly of on a warm Saturday afternoon? More importantly....does this list include a Breitling Superocean Heritage Chronograph? No?....this must be rectified immediately! And here's why:
Meet the Breitling Superocean Heritage Chronograph
For any man who loves all things aviation and diving, Breitling is a byword. Chances are you have atleast one gorgeous Breitling watch holding pride of place among your most prized possessions. But like all dedicated watch lovers know, one is just not enough...which brings us to the Superocean Heritage Chronograph.
This watch is, in a word (alright two words), a man's watch. No muss, no fuss...just classic lines and curves and a quiet impression of solid performance. While this watch is also available in a 44mm diameter, we're dealing with the 46mm avatar. You'd think a size like that would be something that only the larger men could pull off but it's a surprisingly comfortable fit and look on most men. Even its 16.4mm thickness doesn't render it bulky and it will slide comfortably under shirt cuffs, if you decide to pair it with a dressy, evening look.
A look under the hood
When you're looking at a prime piece of machinery – whether a sports car, race boat, or a technically complicated watch – you want to know what makes it tick (pun intended). In the case of the Superocean Heritage Chronograph, that horsepower comes from the officially chronometer-certified self-winding movement, calibre Breitling 13. This movement, which has a vibration of 28,800 v.p.h and 25 jewels, powers a chronograph which has a power reserve of atleast 42 hours and is water resistant to a depth of 200 meters (the un-lumed bezel indicators wouldn't make this watch suitable for deeper dives since it wouldn't be enough against the lower visibility).
The dial, available in a few colors, houses three sub dials for small seconds and the chronograph minute and hour counters, and a date aperture at 3 o'clock. Each of these watches have a ratcheted and uni-directional rotating bezel, a screw down crown, and a cambered sapphire crystal which is glareproofed on both sides.
What's your flava....er, color?
Like all Breitling watches, each collection is available in a range of options. Using the dial color as a base, the Breitling Superocean Heritage Chronograph comes in the following avatars – the black dial is available in a steel case with a rose gold bezel and a brown croco strap with a tang buckle, or a steel case with a black bezel and an ocean classic steel mesh bracelet. A stratus silver dial comes with a black bezel, steel case and ocean classic steel mesh bracelet. And, our favorite, the blue dial comes in two versions: with a blue bezel, steel case and an ocean racer blue rubber strap with a push button folding clasp, and with a black bezel and mesh bracelet.
If, by chance, you're not terribly fond of these combinations, the good folks at Breitling allow you to mix and match your case, dial and bracelet to get a custom Superocean Heritage Chronograph!
