The summer calendar is filled with must-attend events, both from a social causes perspective and from a high fashion point of view. And what could be more of both than the 6th annual PEERS Summer Gala?

This year, the white tie event took place on Saturday, August 30, at the La Jolla Grand Estate, overlooking La Jolla Shores on La Jolla Farms Road. Hosted over Labor Day weekend, the gala was definitely a way for the last occasion to wear white to go out in style!

What is the PEERS Summer Gala?

If you're unfamiliar with this yearly event, you're probably wondering what this gala is about...so here's a little background. The PEERS Network is a non-profit group which gives back to the community by enhancing philanthropic pursuits and creating a network that encourages entrepreneurship.

Every year, the network celebrates a noteworthy local non-profit organisation at their Summer Gala...a night of spectacular gourmet food and entertainment, populated by the who's who of industry and philanthropy. This year, the network honored the Challenged Athletes Foundation, which helps people with physical disabilities live to their fullest potential through sports.

Many organisations showed their support for this cause by donating items for the charity auction; CJ Charles Jewelers donated a Panerai Luminor 1950 watch. All proceeds from the event will be used to support this worthy cause, both in equipment and personal expertise.

What to wear to the "white tie" PEERS Summer Gala

So, what exactly does one wear to a white tie event? Traditionally, white tie means gowns for women and tails for men. The PEERS gala however, despite being a white tie event, does follow black tie formal attire...which means all white isn't a must. Men can and mostly do wear black tuxedos (they probably sigh in relief over that!)...although a white suit is great as well (just, no tails). If you're going with a black tuxedo, then you wan to meet the "white" portion of the theme with oyster or white cufflinks and tuxedo buttons, and maybe a white bow tie or a pocket square. You'll cut a dashing figure!

Ladies can't really go wrong with an elegant gown, of course, but choosing a white, cream or ivory dress (maybe with a little black thrown in for gorgeous contrast) is gonna be the perfect look for an evening like this. Naturally, your shoes, jewelry and clutch purses will have to be accessorized accordingly...but there's so much to play with!
