Vintage Panerai

Vintage Panerai watches continue to appreciate in value. Sotheby's held an auction of Important Watches on May 14th in Geneva, and every available Panerai model crushed expectations. Consider yourself lucky if you own one of these extraordinary watches.

Historical Panerai

One of the most exciting Vintage Panerai models available for sale, was the Extremely Rare and Historical Large Stainless Steel Military Diver's Watch with Prototype Bezel on a Luminor Case, Circa 1955. This watch features a prototype polycarbonate bezel with three black dots at 3.6.and 9 and a luminescent dot at 12. The watch was expected to sell for $200k, with the chance of getting to $400k. The lot sold for a staggering $478,002 well exceeding expectations for this vintage Panerai and establishing a much higher market for estate Panerai in general.

The watch is Reference 6152/1 and measures 46mm, slightly larger than the previous Radiomir style, and able to fit Rolex calibre 618. It is estimated that only 300 of this reference were created. Owned by Admiral Gino Birindelli, this vintage Panerai enjoys impeccable provenance.
