The IWC Big Pilot Top Gun watches are your piece of the "Top Gun" experience! The Big Pilot’s Watch Top Gun Miramar and Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Top Gun Miramar are IWC's tribute to the US NAVY pilots’ school in Miramar, California.

This school trained its pilots into unparalleled excellence and, between 1969 and 1996, as their reputation spread worldwide, the Top Gun legend was born! Top Gun’s influence was lasting; the evolving program drew return graduates for more training, and the best became instructors who shared close bonds and lived up to fighter pilot reputations.

The alluring flyboy lifestyle was too good for Hollywood to pass up – 1986 saw Tom Cruise starring in "Top Gun" (inspired by a 1982 California Magazine article), which captured the spirit, if not precise details, of life around Miramar. Much of it was shot in and around NAS Miramar and San Diego.

Meet the IWC Big Pilot Top Gun

True to IWC's Pilot watch legacy, both timepieces have their dial divided into an external chapter ring and inner hour circle – like the deck watches of the 1930s and '40s. Likewise inspired by the military are the shimmering metallic grey ceramic case, beige hands and chapter ring, and green textile strap. The finishing touch – the elaborate Top Gun engraving embellished on the case backs!

The Big Pilot’s Watch Top Gun Miramar has a 7-day power reserve, thanks to the in-house caliber 51111 – the largest automatic movement made by IWC. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Top Gun Miramar (with its flyback function) owes its 68-hour power reserve to the IWC-manufactured 89365 movement, protected against magnetism by a soft-iron inner case.

Your IWC Big Pilot Top Gun

At its peak, Miramar (a naval station from 1947) housed over 150 F-14s, the fastest, most threatening plane in the Navy's arsenal, and was called "Fightertown U.S.A." For San Diego, naval associations are cause for deep pride, and how better to express it than to wear a naval timepiece!

As an authorized dealer for IWC in La Jolla and San Deigo, CJ Charles is pleased to help you express that solidarity. Contact us or come by to get your piece today!
